Microbial electrosynthesis via intermediates

This Ph.D. proposes a novel strategy to produce biochemicals out of CO2 in a bioelectrochemical system. The electricity-driven microbial conversion of CO2 into multi-carbon compounds is described as microbial electrosynthesis. This proposal describes a different approach to MES, based on the fermentation of CO2 and (bio)electrochemically produced intermediates. These intermediates have the potential to tackle the limitations associated with MES.
