Leuven Institute for Beer Research (LIBR)

The Leuven Institute for Beer Research (LIBR) was founded as a comprehensive beer research center to foster collaborations with the fermented beverages industry, with a special focus on the beer industry. LIBR combines the expertise and equipment available at KU Leuven research groups focusing on different aspects of beer brewing and fermentation including expertise in raw materials, malting & brewing process, process technology, fermentation, microbial ecology, chemical and sensory analyses and beer stability Additionally, LIBR has access to a pilot malting facility and two state-of-the-art pilot breweries. Uniting this expertise helps streamline the beer-related R&D at KU Leuven and enables LIBR partners to tackle diverse research projects covering raw materials to the final product.  Moreover, LIBR’s capacity and size generates opportunities to enable collaborations with international (industrial) partners.
