KILLSPACE - about a possible alternative awareness environment in support of architecture that extends beyond just the built

This doctoral project is about the building up, experiencing, embodying and sharing of an alternative space of awareness about architecture.

The project is a reflection and exists in a critical approach of architecture. KILLSPACE is a designed image and notion that I conceived of in order to express a space not outside of live but inherent to life, in which we continuously destroy and kill, on purpose or unaware, literally, ritually or symbolically, in the process of creation, to make room for evolution, renewal, and change.

Situating architecture in that space of creative destruction or destructive creation throws particular light on number of the fundamental spatial relationships expressed by means of architecture: not in the least the relationships to other people, or to all that is other. KILLSPACE embodies a heightened awareness about these relationships, questions fundamentally architecture as the practice of designing and building buildings, and explores a possible alternative understanding: that of architecture as something beyond the built.

The project reflects and acts by means of creative processes that I have made my own, and that give form to spatial set ups, in depth questioning, interaction and dialogue, inside a designed to the purpose space of what I call action-reflection. It builds on the experience of my earlier developed parallel practices conceptualizing, performing, teaching and servicing architecture. It wants to build up an understanding over the whole of my work and think about a possible next step, one that comes out of the continued experiment. This continued experiment has a double function: the formalization of a deep and creative resourcing of the self and the practice on the one hand, the unclosing of the work and the research to third persons inside and outside of the discipline.
