Project

Investigating the potential of the (peri-)urban dairy chain for sustainable intensification of smallholder dairy farming in the Tigray zone of northern Ethiopia.

The smallholder dairy sector in the peri-urban areas of the Tigray zone has not yet developed to its potential while demand is not met by local supply. This PhD study will focus on how inclusive business models in trade contracts and cooperative systems could enhance access of cattle holders to both feed supply and outlet markets and create a conducive production environment.
