Intestinal Redox Status and its Effects on Intestinal Health in Early Life of Intrauterine Growth Retarded Piglets

The shift during early life of the oxidative and redox status in the intestine of intra-uterine growth-retarded piglets compared to normal birth weight piglets will be studied in relation to intestinal health. Phenotypic measurements of the antioxidant system and intestinal epithelial barrier function and regeneration capacity will be performed, as well as quantitative expression analyses of genes involved in oxidative stress.
