The influence of European Student Mobility on European Identity and subsequent migration behaviour.

Main research objective: Develop an empirical verified theoretical model on the influence of European student mobility (ESM) within the European space on European identity and further migration behavior.Sub objectives: (a) Comprehending patterns of ESM within Europe and some specific European countries. (b) Understanding the push and pull factors of ESM. (c) Comprehending the influence of the "year abroad" on European identity and subsequent migration behaviour. (d) Define the motivational factors that influence the migration decisions of European students and comprehend their aspirations.AbstractThe topic of highly skilled migration gained a lot of interest over the last decade. Students are often considered as a specific category of the highly skilled, or at least as a precursor to highly skilled migration. Nevertheless, student migration remains far understudied, either conceptually or methodologically. This PhD focuses on European student mobility, the push and pull factors, the influence of this mobility on European identity and the migration decision and aspirations of European students.
