Inequality of opportunity: measurement in theory and practice.

The gap between recent advances in the theoretical literature on inequality of opportunity and the empirical measurement of inequality of opportunity will be bridged. We (1) complete an overview of the literature, (2) provide axiomatic foundations for existing and new approaches to measure inequality of opportunity and (3) verify whether rankings between countries are sensitive to the measurement chosen.
