Holography: New applications to cosmology, black holes and strongly coupled field theories.

I am interested in a number of applications of the AdS/CFT correspondence, a realization of the holographic principle provided by String Theory. The broad scope of my research project is to understand the implications of the AdS/CFT correspondence both as a description of the quantum regime of gravity, and as a tool to explore non-perturbative aspects of ordinary gauge theories. Concretely, I plan to apply the methods provided by the duality to investigate cosmologies and black holes in String Theory, as well as the strong coupling regime of field theories. In a more ambitious framework, I aim at attempting to confront cosmological data deduced through this approach with observations, and at making contact with the quark-gluon plasma state produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC.
