Project

Freedom restriction and mental health care in Flanders (GGZ) and follow-up study on multidisciplinary guideline seclusion and fixation. (SWVG-EF21+38)

In a previous study, we developed a multidisciplinary guideline (MDG) for isolation and fixation in residential mental health care (MH).

In this follow-up study, we are formulating recommendations with regard to the concrete procedural aspects of the application of isolation and fixation within residential mental health care and youth care. This concerns techniques for isolation and fixation within the context of aggression and escalation. With regard to fixation, we are examining both the physical intervention and the mechanical fixation. Medication fixation procedures are not included in this study.

In addition to this, we are redesigning the developed multidisciplinary guideline to transform it into a user-friendly variant that care providers can use in the prevention and application of isolation and fixation. This user-friendly MDG for residential MH will be submitted to CEBAM for certification.
