Flemish Research Project Urban Logistics and Mobility (IWT687)

In this project, the five Flemish Universities, together with VIM and VIL, further develop their expertise regarding urban mobility and logistics. Goal of this research is to connect logistics chains, space, economy, environment and mobility in an urban context. This integrated approach is innovative in scientific literature. In addition, such an approach leads to more sustainable and smarter urban distribution and increases the livability of cities. The role of MOBI in this project focuses on two subprojects. In project 2.3.4 Market analyses of electric mobility, prognoses regarding market potential of electric mobility in an urban context are refined and the effect of stimulating measures is determined by studying the purchase behavior of electric vehicles and a user study. In addition, a location analysis for the required infrastructure is developed. In project 4.1.1. Development of sustainability evaluation framework, a practical and scientifically solid sustainability evaluation framework is developed to assess the impact of new mobility and logistics concepts on urban livability. Three work packages are defined under 4.1.1: a) Policy based on data (sustainability indicators and index) b) External cost calculator for urban context and c) Integrated evaluation framework. This will result in a selection of sustainability indicators and a hierarchical index for monitoring, benchmarking and evaluating urban mobility and logistics, in an external cost calculator for identifying and monetazing external effects related to mobility and logistics in an urban context and in an integrated evaluation framework for assessing the impact of new concepts/measures for urban mobility and logistics.
