The fifth European conference on The State of the Welfare State anno 1992 in EU : 20 years later.

Since 1995 the research group Welfare State of HIVA organises every 5 years for EZA the European Centre for Workers Questions an conference and comparative research project to study to what extent the 'Social Europe' was succeeding - or failing - to emerge since in 1992 the completion of the internal market was realised. Following in those conferences the enlargement the EU, national experts, mostly economists, were invited to assess for the past five years how the further economic integration and evolution impacted on the welfare states in those countries. Since then a community of dedicated but non-partisan researchers has been created that provides a chronicle for the past five years how the welfare state, and especially pensions, health care and long term care evolves, in view of the past economic developments. On 19-20 October 2015 the conference will take place for the fifth time, 20 years after the first conference.
