Exploring multi-mode and multi-laser scanning strategies for enhanced metal additive manufacturing

This PhD research aims at developing a fundamental understanding of the liquid melt pool formation during laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) of metals. By developing and using advanced numerical process modelling and by applying in-situ melt pool monitoring techniques, a sound and technical relation between L-PBF process parameters and melt pool characteristics will be developed, enabling a better understanding of suitable process conditions for new materials and specific complex geometries on the one hand, and allowing for improved part density and mechanical performance on the other hand.
