Project

Enhancing Mental Health, Counselling, and Wellbeing Support for University Students in Bhutan (Erasmus+ Key Action 2 – Capacity Building in Higher Education) (EUPOM66)

This project will establish a counselling service centre in all nine colleges in the Royal University of Bhutan through capacity building within the individual colleges, and with technical assistance from the European partners.
By the end of this project, funded by Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education, a unique Happiness and Wellbeing Centre will have been established in all of the Royal University of Bhutan colleges. These counselling centres will embody a hybrid of western counselling and psychology principles, and the Bhutanese concept of Gross National Happiness.
There will be sufficient number of trained personnel at Royal University of Bhutan to efficiently run the counselling service centre. This will be achieved through in-country counsellor training, capacity-building workshops in European universities, and the development of a digital platform. This project will significantly, and positively, impact on students studying at Royal University of Bhutan and the counselling centres will also be able to service members of the local community in the long run.
The University of Birmingham’s involvement in this project will be to provide technical assistance to the development of the counsellor training manual and assist in the training of novice counsellors in Bhutan. Birmingham will host Bhutanese project members on campus in 2020, provide research coordination and guidance, and perform an impact evaluation and beneficiary assessment at the conclusion of the project.
