Project

Employee turnover, changes in organisation demographics and knowledge retention as predictors of organisation performance.

Central to this research project are (1) an accurate measurement of the impact of voluntary and natural employee turnover on operational and financial firm performance; and (2) an assessment of the moderating influence of firm demographic changes on the one hand, investment in knowledge retention on the other hand. Regarding VOLUNTARY turnover (i.e. an employees definitive decision to terminate the employment relationship for other reasons than (early) retirement or disability) we assess: 1. The nature of the relationship between voluntary turnover and firm performance 2. The direction of the relationship between voluntary turnover and firm performance 3. The impact of volatility in turnover patterns, i.e. temporal stability/variation, on firm performance 4. The moderating influence of knowledge retention practices in the relationship between voluntary turnover and firm performance Regarding NATURAL turnover (i.e. the definitive leave of a person because of (early) retirement or disability) we assess: 5. The nature of the relationship between natural turnover and firm performance 6. The nature of the relationship between the firms demography and firm performance (static perspective) 7. The effect of firm demographic changes (because of turnover) on firm performance (dynamic perspective) 8. The moderating influence of knowledge retention practices in the relationship between natural turnover and firm performance
