Project

Efficient cryptographic implementations for the security of the internet of things.

In this PhD, research will be done on how to offer efficient security within the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT). The project consists of designing and implementing applications that are both efficient and secure and therefore will contribute to the concept of the IoT. Today already some mobile phones contain the necessary hardware to communicate wirelessly with surrounding objects. As for now this is mainly done through Bluetooth but currently the integration of Near Field Communication (NFC), a successor of RFID for mobile devices, has started. In this research we will work on the design and the implementation of secure systems and communication protocols that fit within the concept of the Internet of Things. Central herein will be the applications that make use of mobile devices such as phones but also all types of smart cards and RFID tags. Moreover, a security and risk analysis will be carried on the different possibilities of the IoT, where the focus will mainly lie on mobile authentication and mobile payments on all available platform available today or in the near future.
