Effects of non-resonant instabilities in the solar wind and coronal mass ejections.

The project has two parts, viz. (1) analytical modeling and numerical estimations for the linear effects of the non-resonant magnetic instabilities (filamentation, Weibel, mirror) and their cumulative effects, based on the new kinetic or hybrid kinetic-MHD models of thermal counterstreaming plasma structures typically encountered in CMEs and in the solar wind; and (2) analytical and numerical modeling of the nonlinear regime of magnetic instabilities and the consequences for the same conditions of solar and interplanetary plasmas.
