The effect of the social-cultural distance between natives and non-natives on the mutual perception and trust in government (R-2017)

The aim of this research project is to measure the social-cultural distance between natives and non-natives and the impact of this distance on the mutual perception and trust in government. The methodology will be a quantitative analysis of survey data. All data are already gathered. A first survey was done in the former coalmining communes Genk and Houthalen-Helchteren (740 face-to-face interviews). A second survey was done in Antwerp, Genk and Gent (950 face-to-face interviews). The respondents were natives, non-natives with a Moroccan background and non-natives with a Turkish background. The large number of interviews and the extra questions in the second questionnaire enable us to test scientific theories profoundly.
