Development of NbC-based cermets for wear resistant applications

The mechanical properties of NbC based cermets are closely linked with the chemical composition of the secondary carbide addition and the carbon content of the NbC phase, as well as the processing conditions. The proposed research is aiming to understand the processing-microstructure-properties correlations of NbC-based cermets, doped with secondary carbides as a function of the metal binder content and (Co, Ni, Fe) composition.
