Project

Developer-funded archaeological research at the site Stevoort Kanenveld.

Due to the construction of a dyke and buffer basin to prevent flooding of the present-day village of Stevoort, a part of the Mesolithic site Stevoort Kanenveld was threatened. This study aims at evaluating the site, by means of fieldwalking survey, augering and test pitting, and the excavation of selected parts of the site. The research questions are dealing with the nature of the (Mesolithic) occupation and the study of the relationship of man with its changing environment. This should lead to a better insight in the prehistoric occupation of this part of the Demer basin (Herk river valley).
