The Denied Image: Art Interventions Between Iconoclasm and Institutional Critique.

I intend to explore the idea of Iconoclasm as a lens through which to investigate, to question and to analyse the creative act itself, together with researching and mapping similar practices in contemporary art. My aim is to engage with the issues of iconoclasm and artistic value within Art Intervention, Institutional Critique and Appropriation Art discourses but also using other frameworks such as legal, ethical, socio-economic and historical ones. My main focus is on the concept of iconoclasm in relation to existing artworks. In my multi-faced art practice I follow the idea of visual obliteration using ready-made artworks but also my own ex-novo paintings. During my PhD I hope to continue my art practice using found artworks in order to physically modify them or use them as raw material. My approach to existing art pieces is dialectical as I use them as palimpsests or forced partners of a unilateral artistic action. I am interested in further researching and developing an experimental language through the various declinations of the concept of iconoclasm.
