Deconstruct the city, Create the city - I love science Festival 2019 (ILSF) (BRGEOZ384)
The proposed project allows children, young people and (young) adults to get acquainted with the architecture and structure of the city in which they live, study and work in a multimedia, creative and interactive way. What makes a city and the buildings of which it consists so smart and unique?
In order to find out, we have to analyse and ‘dissect’ the city. Every city consists of different building parts, at different levels, ranging from neighbourhoods, building blocks, buildings, public space and infrastructure to small-scale building elements and components. By recognising these building elements and distinguishing them from each other, we see how many different elements are needed to make a city. The architectural richness of a city and its buildings can thus be understood as a puzzle with endless solutions. Do you recognise that puzzle in your street, in your house and in your school? And what is the result if you make that puzzle different by (re)using the elements in a new configuration?
In this interactive exhibition, visitors are made aware of various innovative and policy-relevant themes related to architecture and structure, such as sustainability, efficient use of materials, reuse, recycling and heritage. Innovative concepts such as form-active structures, modularity and parametric design are also shown in an insightful way. This is done on the basis of posters, graphic tear-off sheets, full-size models, DIY models, workshops and interactive digital arrangements.
