De invloed van genetische diversiteit in Schistosoma-parasieten op infectie- en ziektepatronen in de mens. (SCHISTO)

Aims and questions: The main aim of this study is to identify the factors that drive the spread of Schistosoma species and strains within the human population and reveal the consequences for morbidity and control.
1. What is the overall distribution of human schistosome species and strains in the community of Pakh?
2. Which host-related factors are associated with schistosome infection and pathology?
3. What is the role of environmental data such as water contact sites, snail distribution, snail infection andpossible animal reservoir hosts in schistosome transmission dynamics?
4. Is there a link between parasite infection (mixed versus single infection) and human pathology status?
5. Is there a link between specific parasite genotypes and human pathology status?
