Creating the building blocks for Just-In-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) for mental health problems

While considerable attention has been focused on treating mental disorders in adults, few resources have been devoted to addressing transdiagnostic risk factors for mental health problems among young people before debilitating disorders develop. Our project will change this by creating the building blocks for novel Just-In-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) that target three key transdiagnostic processes among young people in daily life: (1) affective recovery from stress, (2) social interaction, and (3) suicidal and non-suicidal self-injurious thoughts and behaviors. We will develop gold standard measures for assessing these transdiagnostic processes in real time (WP1), clarify their real-time dynamics and course (WP2), and build integrated personalized risk prediction models (WP3). This will be achieved by drawing on existing and new experience sampling and wearable data to deliver unique insights about moments of risk relevant to different mental health problems.
