Project

Coronavirus Pandemic Preparedness.

The Leuven Institute for the Future has set up a project to learn from the current pandemic in
order to better prepare for the future. This learning needs to be done with different disciplines, and
together with the society. We need to understand the complexity of the societal crisis caused by the
pandemic, and we need to co-create pandemic preparedness with all stakeholders. The team is
observing the gaps in this preparedness as they unfold, map these gaps with respect to the complex
interactions that they uncover, and probe for the deeper causes of these gaps. Resilience towards a
next wave and/or pandemic has to be built not by reacting to each gap separately, but by tackling
the deeper causes that are related to how our society functions. The project intends to draft
recommendations on how the knowledge of these deeper causes can already be taken into account
for pandemic preparedness, and what type of research projects might move the society forward
towards better resilience.
