Coordination of scientific services and contract research. (R-1343)

Research within CenStat enjoy a stable international reputation and several researchers at CenStat are active in the field of national and international professional and scientific organizations. Second, these international contacts are extremely beneficial to the contract research on this occasion. Besides the well-known sources of funding, it is obvious that CenStat makes use of these international networks for additional project funding. In particular CenStat counts on these extensive contacts with the pharmaceutical industry and other partners, for scientific cooperation. There's a ten year old tradition within CenStat to combine scientific research with contract research and scientific services. Partly due to good cooperation and mainly cross pollination between these areas, CenStat has grown remarkably during the last 10 years. The provision of such services in various forms to mainly pharmaceutical industry, promotes the earlier fundamental research. We are currently investigating how these activities can be commercialized in the form of a spin-off of the UHasselt. The specific nature of these activities requires a thorough analysis in order to get the correct estimation of its value. At the same time a recent partnership has been established with the Biostatistical Center of the KU Leuven in the form of IB ² and any combination of the two structures should be carefully examined.
