Project
Control of mealybugs in ornamentals, within and existing IPM system (Wolluis)
 Mealybugs are a group of
plant pests which originate in warm regions. They are however also present in
greenhouse crops in the temperate climate regions. Greenhouse ornamental plants
are an important group of crops where mealybugs cause problems. The goal of
this project is to find sustainable solutions to tackle mealybug pests and
integrate these solutions within existing IPM systems are they are applied in commercial
ornamental crops.
Different solutions were developed for a better monitoring based on both pheromone techniques as well as in crop sampling. The use of beneficial insects was validated and an integrated strategy for the sustainable application of chemical pesticides was developed.
