Computer Aided Designed and Manufactured Custom Implants of the Cranio-Maxillofacial Skeleton

This research especially focuses on the medical implants, manufactured by 3D printing, used in cranio-maxillofacial surgery.

Skull defects come in different sizes and a new classification is proposed that can be used in clinical and scientific setting.

New fixation technologies enable easier and faster fixation of custom cranial implants to the remaining skull bone.Verification is performed by FEM analysis and pull-out testing.

Animal studies show promising results regarding hybride skull implants, combining the strength of non resorbable 3D printed materials in combination with bio-resorbable materials.

New applications such as mandibular replacement by patient specific 3D printed titanium implants are developed.
