Project

Combined steady-state and phosphorescence lifetime spectrometer

Funding for a modular setup for measuring steady-state emission and excitation spectra in the UV-VIS-NIR range, together with phosphorescence decays in the time range between 1 microsecond and 10 seconds. The spectrometer will be used for study of luminescence of lanthanide ions (rare-earth ions). Lanthanide luminescence is of interest for two main purposes: (1) characterisation of new luminescent materials and (2) spectroscopic probes to get structural information. Studying the luminescence spectra of lanthanide ions gives valuable information on the symmetry of the lanthanide site, the number of lanthanide species in solution and the number of coordinated water molecules.
