Breaking cancer drug resistance: exploring drug resistance mechanisms to exploit associated vulnerabilities

Resistance of cancer cells to chemotherapeutics is a major problem in cancer treatment that necessitates the discovery of strategies to combat drug resistance. The aim of this project is to identify mechanisms of resistance to a given anti-cancer compound and to determine which of these resistance mechanisms occur in patients with refractory cancer. To achieve this, we will combine several different CRISPR screening techniques with clinical data from drug-treated cancer patients. The screening approach established in this project can be translated to other drugs and can be broadly applied as a platform for resistance prediction.
