Between lay devotion and monastic experience. Ascetism and penitential culture in late medieval semi-religious communities in the Southern Low Countries.

Central to this project is the question of how semi-religious movements and communities were related, in their ascetic and penitential experience, to both traditional monastic institutions and to the new forms of ordinary lay spirituality as they began to develop from the 13th century onwards
