Project

Assignment to the cost efficiency of the renting system for wheelchairs in the nursing homes. (R-7329)

Before 2007, elderly people in WZC had to buy their wheelchair if they needed one. Health insurance of the patient needing a wheelchair, would then compensate this expense by the amount of the purchase price. From the scope of this research project and the annex thereto provided about renting, it appears that the sales system was replaced in 2007 by a hiring or renting system for three reasons. The first reason was the realization of a better and individual contribution to the evolving needs of elderly people needing a wheelchair. In addition the optimalisation of the use and the availability of quality wheelchairs in residential care centers by the new system was necessary, given that purchased wheelchairs used to stay in the WZC after the owners died or moved somewhere else. Thanks to the new renting system these wheelchairs will be assigned to other residents. A final reason for the development of the renting system was the ability of the government to manage the cost of providing wheelchairs.
