Project

Assessment of Functional capacity in the construction industry

Determining the degree of work ability of a (potential) employee is complex. Guidelines and good practices concerning the evaluation of physical work ability that are used by all actors are currently lacking in Flanders. This research will lead to the improvement of the current practice. The focus of this project is on job seekers with a work disability who strive to work in the construction sector. These persons receive counselling from GTB and are in need of a work ability evaluation due to physical complaints and/or pain. The embedding of Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) in a process to work for persons with physical and/or pain complaints will be investigated by using concrete cases and practical tests. To realise this project, there will three actions taken: surveying the functional demands of the capacity for occupational clusters in the construction sector; realising of a standard FCE; and formulating policy recommendations to implement FCE in Flanders.
