Artificial Intelligence for Optimization of Power Electronics Design

Novel approaches in AI for efficiency and power density maximization of power converters in energy applications Artificial Intelligence (AI) is nowadays a tool that allows computers to find solutions in a better and faster way. Therefore, AI has the potential to improve the design of power converters in applications where more than one objective is required to be minimized. Especially in electric mobility, requirements are quite strict to meet the performance demands. In case of electric cars, power losses and volume play an important role, while in electric aviation, power losses and weight are the critical objectives to minimize. In the power converter design, there are many factors that affect a converter performance: variables, parameters, components to use, topologies, etc. These factors make design itself a complex activity as the possible solutions, resulting from the combination of each component and parameter, constitute a whole universe as such. With that amount of possible designs, computation becomes quite expensive and lasts extensive periods of time. The aim of this project is to create an artificial intelligence that involves different classification, regression and optimization techniques to improve the design of power converters in electric mobility. The project will focus on power converters with different types of components: semiconductors, magnetics, capacitors, PCBs, cooling systems, etc.
