Aristocratic women in the corridors of power. Gender, sexual morality and the public sphere in Vienna and London, 1814/15-1848.
This projectU+2019s research question is to what extent an increasing media coverage made aristocratic women conform to middle-class sexual morality and consequently led to their exclusion from politics. It will compare the use of sexual morality as a political weapon in U+2018liberalU+2019 London and in Vienna with its strict censorship laws from an inner and outer perspective.
