Project

. Analysis of Investment Needs in transport sector.

The aim of the research project is to develop a unified methodology for the estimation of investment needs in the transport sector and to apply this as a forecasting tool in case studies. The main focus will be large interregional infrastructures in the EU, predominantly for road and rail. The starting point for the analysis is how countries/regions currently estimate their infrastructure needs? We will use a detailed literature search and informal contacts with experts working in the field to summarise current best practice and develop a unified methodology. Based on existing experience of applying a bottom up approach to the evaluation of transport investments, a new version of the MOLINO model will be developed that uses a minimum of information to simulate the transport needs for a particular region. New features of the model include a flexible forecasting module for transport demand. The assessment methodology will be applied to two case studies.
