Organisation profile:

The research conducted in this group is focused on two major fields: (1) New directions in fundamental and philosophical theology, and (2) Political theology as Catholic fundamental theology. It is also home to the international center for research into the theology of Edward Schillebeeckx, the Edward Schillebeeckx Project, and collaborates with the Interfaculty Centre for Catholic Thought and the Centre for Liberation Theologies. Most of the group's sub-projects explore the relationship between Catholic theology, philosophy, and politics. Current research projects are concerned with the following topics: Eschatology and Economics, Faith and Reason in Modernity, African Liberation Theology, Theology and Migration, Theology and Missiology, Political Theology, Sacramental Theology, Public Theology, and the theologies of Edward Schillebeeckx, Joseph Ratzinger, Hans Urs von Balthasar, Emmanuel Falque, and William Cavanaugh, among others.

The research group holds monthly meetings in the form of a seminar. Here, the research projects of its members are discussed. The members also participate in two reading groups. Visiting professors are frequently invited for lectures and seminars. The research group is closely connected with researchers at the Australian Catholic University, The University of Durham, Radboud University Nijmegen, the University of Vienna, and Villanova University.
