Organisation profile:

The research group Modernity & Society 1800-2000, Leuven, investigates international actors (institutions, movements and individuals), global-local relationships and transnational phenomena. Its research focus lies on agency and agenda-setting as well as the bottom-up processes which brought about new organized forms of trans- and international interaction in the last 200 years. Conceptual frameworks of acting and thinking beyond the borders of the nation state, such as religion, transnational solidarity, the manifold notions of European integration and the emergence of new international (expert) elites, are key topics of our research.
