Organisation profile:Introduction
In Immunology, the main focus lies on susceptibility to HIV infection (correlates of resistance to infection with emphasis on innate immunity NK cells) and on the immunology of co-infections (HIV and TB: TB-IRIS; HIV and other pathogens like Leishmania, schistosomiasis).
Luc Kestens is head of the Immumology Unit since 1995.
Research lines- The immunological cause for resistance against HIV infection.
- Immunological monitoring of HIV infection and immune reconstitution.
- The immunopathogenesis of the immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in HIV patients.
- Alternatives for immunological monitoring of HIV infection in development countries.
