Organisation profile:During the 200-year anniversary of our university, important academic and scientific collections were developed that grew from scientific research or from pedagogical approaches. The basis of this unique and extremely rich collection is William I of Orange. It was he who, in the establishment of the university in 1817, emphasized academic collections for teaching and research. He even made it clear by law that every university should have access to 'Uncooking for the histories of animaux and pour leur anatomie comparée' for its education in natural history, which marked the start of the collection of the Museum of Zoology. It was also the start of other collections, such as a collection of surgical instruments (developed into the current Museum for the History of Medicine) and ethnographic collections. Of the twenty-two collections, nineteen were originally used for teaching and / or research. The three who deviated from this (Veterinary Past, Pharmacy, Biomedical Library) focused mainly on exhibition.
