Organisation profile:

The Crime & Society Research Group (CRiS) is part of the Faculty of Law and Criminology at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). We conduct multidisciplinary research in the fields of penology, juvenile criminology, urban criminology, policing and surveillance. CRiS research essentially focuses on the study of practices of actors involved in crime control on the one hand, and the experiences and perceptions of those subjected to that control on the other.

This research orientation is not only of scientific interest. It also implies a concrete commitment of the researchers to the studied settings, striving to maximise the social impact of the research results through knowledge exchange with actors in the field, policymakers, interest groups and society. CRiS is a multidisciplinary scientific team with extensive expertise in conducting qualitative and quantitative research. For more information on the Crime & Society research group see: https://cris.research.vub.be/en/home).
