Organisation profile:Current research projects within the Centre for Urban History focus upon guilds in the early modern economy (c.14th-c.18th), the social history of cities in the late middle ages and the long sixteenth century (religion, society), material culture history (c.16th-c.18th), consumer culture, history of markets and retailing (middle ages-c.18th), book history (c.17th-18th). Research within the Urban History Centre focuses upon research methodologies and topics that allow for the development of an integrated urban history in which justice is done to the economic, political, religious, cultural and other forces in urban developments. A major thread running through all research topics is the 'urban environment and society' as an explanatory variable.
