The Centre for Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy (CESPF) co-ordinates all research concerning ethics, applied ethics, social & political philosophy, and philosophy of law at the Institute of Philosophy.The CESPF hosts three major lines of research, dealing respectively with foundational issues such as the analysis of the moral experience in Ethics; with topical questions like health-care and migration in Applied Ethics; and with the quest for democratic community building in Social and Political Philosophy. Research covers the problem of the foundation of ethics and the social dimension of ethical issues. Seminars on these topics are regularly organized. Current projects: - Historical studies on the moral philosophy of Aristotle, Thomas Kant, Hegel. - Contemporary philosophical approaches (Lévinas, Habermas, Lyotard). - The just distribution of wealth. - The essence of political power. - Subjective freedom, human rights, tolerance, liberalism and communitarianism. - Theory of democracy. Nation and nationalism. - The respect for life, birth and death in the context of modern biomedical science. - An historical enquiry about the structure and metaphysical import of subjectivity in German Idealism, in confrontation with contemporary subject-critical tendencies.
