Body Composition and Morphology

Research Group

Lifecycle:8 Nov 2012 →  24 Feb 2016
Organisation profile:

The research group LIMO is mainly focused on changes in Body composition and morphology in people with under-, normal- and overweight, in different age groups (children, adolescents and elderly persons) and activity level (sedentary, moderate active and athletes), as well as the validation of techniques and devices used to detect this changes. Quality control and critical appraisal of the reliability of body composition data acquisition techniques and systems, from easy to use techniques (anthropometry, hydro densitometry, ultrasound), to more expensive and complex medical imaging techniques (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)) is the main goal of LIMO. Besides whole body composition, special attention is dedicated to segmental (arms, legs, trunk) changes on tissue (muscle, adipose tissue, bone) level. The strength of the LIMO research group is, that validation of techniques and devices will be compared with direct measurements (dissection).
