Organisation profile:

The Division of Bioeconomics has three main research lines:

  • poverty reduction and economic growth in poor countries and the sustainable and efficient use of natural resource to realize pro-poor growth;
  • the transition towards a sustainable bio-based economy;
  • the link between economic and ecological models by refining functions of socio-economic drivers that are used to model resource use change and changes in ecosystem services, and how institutions (policy decisions and regulations) affect this link.

Retaling to developing countries : - Identification and evaluation of agricultural development projects. - Farming systems research : on-farm research in CNRA, Ivory Coast. - Study of food security in Zaire. - Study of the liberalisation of cacao and coffee marketing in Cameroon and the role of market information systems. - Study of milk prices in Belgium. Impacts and optimality of government intervention in agricultural and food markets : - Joint determination of price- and research policy. - Impact on optimal farming structures and tenure relations. - Political economy of price policy. Central and East European Agricultural Reform : - Impact of reforms on domestic and international markets. - Political economy of privatization and transformation.
