Astronomy

Lifecycle:1 Jan 1992 →  Today
Organisation profile:

The institute concentrates on the study, both theoretical and observational, of the variability of stars and the properties and evolution of stars and circumstellar matter. - Stellar pulsation theory - asymptotic theory - nonlinear pulsations. - Asteroseismology from space. - Interpretation of photometric and spectroscopic variability of massive stars. - Chemical evolution of low- and intermediate-mass stars. - Studies of the properties of circumstellar dust of young and evolved stars. Observational studies are conducted at the European Southern Observatory (Chile) and with several satellites of the European Space Agency. The institute develops a new ground-based intermediate-size optical telescope that is optimized for monitoring programs.
