Project

Generalization of behaviors learned in physical education to recess

WHO recommends 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) per day for children and adolescents aged 5-17 years old. However, less than 50% of the 5-11 years old children and 20% of 12 to 17 years old adolescents meet this guideline. Although school physical education is believed to be a critical source for boosting physical activity, the limited curricular time restricts the contribution of physical education class. Recess, one component of the Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP) can significantly contribute to children’s PA during the school day. In addition, it is a setting where children can apply what they have learned in physical education. In this project, we will investigate the transfer (i.e., generalisation) of behaviors learned in physical education to other settings such as recess.
