Robert SchumannU+2019s and Richard WagnerU+2019s 'Musikkritik': a stylistic analysis.
The stylistic opposition between Robert SchumannU+2019s narrative and Richard WagnerU+2019s polemic Musikkritiken exemplifies the rich formal variety within 19th century German Musikkritik. My study will examine the stylistic processes within the writings and situate them within a poetics of instruction vis-à-vis the reader which challenges previous notions of U+2018romantic elitismU+2019. As such, my project will accredit SchumannU+2019s and WagnerU+2019s fundamental innovation of the genre conventions of Musikkritik.
