Project

Combining experimental and computational approaches to investigate arrhythmogenic consequences of connexin hemichannel opening in the heart.

Ventricular fibrillation is one of the leading causes of death in the industrialized world. Unfortunately, mechanistic insights in arrhythmia generation, maintenance and termination are still limited. To that purpose, we will perform an experimental-computational approach to explore the involvement of Cx43 hemichannels in cardiac excitability and arrhythmogenesis and to determine their role as a potential target for therapeutic intervention to treat cardiac arrhythmia and disease.
