Application of anammox-based granular sludge reactors for municipal wastewater treatment

This doctoral research aims at facilitating the application of anammox-based granular sludge reactors , which have become relatively widespread for the treatment of wastewater with high nitrogen concentrations, to municipal wastewater, which is relatively cold and diluted and contains organic carbon. The influence of organic carbon on the anammox process, as well as the optimization of the preceding carbon treatment step will be studied and the outcomes will be integrated on a plant-wide level.
