Prosperpolder South: conducting an archaeological survey (Part 2) (Prosperpolder Zuid)

  The Prosperpolder Beveren is redesigned as a natural (plasma and riparian area) to compensate for the expansion of Verrebroekdok and giving Verrebroekse Lakes under the Grup 'expansion port of Antwerp.' Here are dykes, ponds, canals, islands, dams, overflow and inlet and outlet structures built in the polder. The Prosperpolder South belongs to the Wase Scheldt polders. This region has a very high potential for archaeological heritage. Diffuser peat and alluvial sediments provide very good preservation of the prehistoric and historical landscapes and sites but also on the other hand complicate their detection. In view of the containment of Prosperpolder only took place in the 19th century, the protective cover by peat and alluvial clay may assume a thickness of about 5 m. In view of the suspected thickness of the cover is opted for geophysical research supplemented with paleo scenic validation bores. This request is to provide a review of this procedure and evaluation includes two phases: Phase 1: A geophysical survey by means of electromagnetic induction. At this stage the plan was drawn up by one partner ORBit-Ghent. Phase 2: Additional paleo scenic holes. For this phase, GATE was invited as Ghent University spinoff to a proposed plan of action based on an equal partnership with ORBit-Ghent.
